9/4/2012 (Tuesday), Day 11:
The hotel booked a driver for me at my request. As I was eating my breakfast I met a nice local from Rhode Island! Then instead of Mr. Wu, I got a different Mr. Wu! Due to the limit of cars that can drive for a certain day in the city they restrict those with certain license plates, odd or evens swapping every other day! There's just that many people here! I was a bit woozy from the drive to The Great Wall, people drive like crazy here, on the other side of the road and swerving everywhere. Finally got to see The Great Wall and what a sight it was indeed! Pretty awesome. I had beautiful weather too!! I put in a small hike from about 8:30 AM until 11:30 AM and when I decided to head back down to meet my driver the general public and tourists were coming back up the other way so I was lucky to get there early enough to get some amazing photos! Got back to Beijing about 1 PM as it was about an hour and a half each way. I think the driver was in the opposite lane more than the lane he was supposed to be in! Had a quick snack of leftover dumplings from my dinner the night before. It was cooler here than in Hong Kong for sure. When I got back right after lunch I immediately went back out again to The Forbidden City. It was so big! Glad I chose a hotel somewhat near everything too. After the touristy temples and such I was approached by a random lady who wouldn't stop asking me questions about my stay. She wanted something for sure! I ditched her as soon as I could without revealing any personal information and wandered around the city some more. Had to pay the hotel about $40 USD to confirm the cab back to the airport but glad I did as I didn't want to risk any unnecessary complications the next day. Beijing was short but I enjoyed the different activities everyone was out on the street at night and the market food was unreal to wander around. What a crazy and fantastic day!
